Preparing for What Comes Next
For many students, the Secondary Program serves as a bridge to our Young Adult Program and Project SEARCH, where they take their next steps toward autonomy, independence, employment, and adult life. Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to some of our most common special education questions.
What is a Typical Day in the Madonna Secondary Program?
Madonna's Secondary program follows a traditional school calendar running from August-May.
The school day runs from 8:10 am-3:15 pm. Students follow a schedule that includes academic periods as well as life skills and hands on learning.
Unfortunately, Madonna Special Education Programs are not able to offer morning/afternoon transportation to/from school.
How Do We Serve Students?
Every student in Madonna secondary has an Individualized School Plan (ISP). The ISP is developed collaboratively with special educators, program staff, related service providers, and each family, resulting in a unique set of student goals and interventions. A student’s ISP goals help determine academic instruction provided in whole group and small group settings at their ability level. The ISP team also determines the need for related services such as direct speech small groups or consultation from OT, PT, Psych, etc.
Who Do We Serve?
Madonna supports students with mild to moderate IDD & ASD who thrive in small group and whole group learning environments. Though each student Madonna serves requires some 1:1 support each week, Madonna is not resourced to support students who require consistent and ongoing 1:1 support due to behavioral or health needs.
The program serves students privately placed by their families, as well as students contracted into Madonna's services by their local public school district. Madonna is as an approved SPED Service Provider with the Nebraska Department of Education.
